Fabulous Baby Receiving Blankets

The receiving blanket is a lightweight material that is soft to the touch. The sizes may differ from square to rectangular and they come in a variety of patterns, and prints. Hospitals still use receiving blankets for newborn babies and the nurses always teach the moms how to swaddle their infants before they are discharged.

This blanket can be wrapped around to swaddle the baby to maintain their body heat while they sleep, The receiving blanket can also be used as a changing mat, a burp cloth and a cover for mom when she is nursing and for strollers. The receiving blanket is a must-have for babies because of its many uses.

About Swaddling

"American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says that when done correctly, swaddling can be an effective technique to help calm infants and promote sleep."  

Swaddling is good for your baby because newborns are used to sleeping in a cramped position. When the baby is swaddled they will feel secure and will sleep better. A baby that is swaddled in a receiving blanket sleeps on their back.

The general rule of swaddling is to put your baby to sleep on their back and not to sleep on their stomachs or sides and to stop swaddling when your baby grows to the point that they show signs of rolling, (2 months)

Swaddling is not for all mommies.  One friend told me she could not swaddle her baby because her baby kept pulling her arm out and wanted to roll over.  So she put her baby to sleep in a swaddle sack. She went on to say that she loved her baby blankets for the stroller, car seat, changing table, and more.  She continued to use them when her daughter was a toddler.

Cozy Fleece Blankets for Pets

Today I shopped at Zazzle and found cute fleece blankets with animal prints for cats or dogs. The blankets shown are small fleece sizes for babies and there are also stroller blankets which are the perfect size for the cat carrier, kitten box, or to set on a chair cushion for a small cat to lie on.

I thought this blanket would be a good way to protect my chair from pet hair. Plus a good way to keep a cat or dog warm and cozy during the winter months.

Here is the design that I like. The pink cat and dog pattern is adorable and there is an area to add the pet's name or other words. My friend got a new Pomeranian and this blanket would make a darling gift for her new dog.

The pet blankets are available in larger sizes at Zazzle. The larger sizes are useful in cool rooms or in garages. 

Fold the blanket over and lie on the floor and this will prevent the cat or dog from feeling cold. If you have to take your cat to the veterinarian then cover their carrier with the blanket and the cat will feel less anxious while riding in the car.

Cats may be hesitant about lying on the blanket so I would recommend that you spray it lightly with liquid catnip and your cat will love the fleece blanket. When the kitty approves then they will think of the blanket as theirs.

The blanket is made from 100% polyester fleece that is soft to the touch. When my cat is cold she will lie under the fleece blanket.
